Two people were taken to the hospital after their vehicle struck and killed a horse that was standing in the middle of Interstate 77 in Jackson County. The accident happened about 12:40 a.m. Thursday near mile-marker 141, which is between Ripley and Ravenswood.. Jackson County Sheriff Boggs says the horse was in the middle of the road when it was hit by the SUV. He says two men in the SUV were taken to Jackson General Hospital with significant injuries. They are from Triadelphia, W.Va., which is outside Wheeling. Two other horses found at the scene of the crash were not hurt. Boggs says they're being cared for by a local farmer until authorities can sort out details of the accident and locate their owner.
